40s FRENCH AUBUSSON WALL TAPESTRY

A beautiful French Aubusson tapestry dating from around 1940, woven in wool in the traditional Aubusson style. The tapestry shows a pastoral scene in a muted tone palette.

Aubusson, a town in central France, has been renowned for its tapestry weaving since the 16th century.

It would look lovely hung above a console, bed or sofa.

There is a very small hole/ blemish to the tapestry, consistent with historic wear. This is minimal and does not detract from the overall appearance of the piece. See last photo, in the centre of the yellow tree.

A wire/ ribbon / cord would need to be added to the wooden pole at the top, where you can attach allowing you to hang.
